What Are You Looking At
Posted in Uncategorized on July 19, 2009 by RajarshiObscenity is the category of sexual content that is regulated by law. With the invention of photography and cinema, audio visual pornography has become the dominant form. In the 90’s with new technologies like internet and mobile phones converging with video, pornography has become a global industry. The USA is the largest producer and exporter of pornographic material.

In India, painting and sculpture have for long depicted sex. Since the 1950’s a part pf the film industry caters to pornographic material, making “A” rated films. Recently with the availability of cheap video cameras and mobile phones, a section of the people in India have started to record and make their own amateur videos.

The Jasmine of Mysore
Posted in Films on July 18, 2009 by Rajarshi“Amateur pornography,” as young directors have named it, is a sign of changing sexual mores among young Indians. In mainstream movies, even deep kissing has been taboo, and the only pornography available has usually been from Europe or America. But in 2001, a video appeared on the Internet that overturned these conventions, surprising young Indians all over the country. It was “The Jasmine of Mysore,” a pornographic video produced and performed in by an Indian student couple, and even now, it is constantly being accessed. Set in Bangalore — where IT is transforming young people’s lives — this film follows the every day lives of “Jasmine’s” ardent fans and a fanatic young woman, searching for the “signs of change” in India’s younger generation.

Love in India
Posted in Films on July 1, 2009 by RajarshiIn India, Lord Krishna and his consort Radha are the gods of love, lust, and passion. Their sexual freedom and devotion has been an inspiration for generations, placing India at the forefront of sexual innovation and introducing the world to the wonders of the Kama Sutra. Fast forward to the present day, where director Q and his girlfriend are in the midst of a passionate romance, yet are in conflict with an Indian culture that has become sexually repressed. How did this happen? In this personal journey, Q travels across India to openly discuss love, sex and the evolution of attitudes towards them. His remarkable film exposes their many positive and hypocritical facets, from the Bollywood film industry and the worship of Radha as a powerful woman to arranged marriages, rampant domestic violence, and lack of sexual education. Q champions the freedom to express love and sexual desire as an intrinsic part of being Indian.
